My Experience with MCT Oil: Stunning Results
About 5 months ago, I read Bulletproof Diet by Dave Asprey. It really gave me a better understanding about the perks of training your body to become "fat-adapted". Since I'm not a nutritionist and don't like suggesting anything except for sharing my own personal experience, I won't go into much detail about the science I learned from reading the book. If you are curious, I suggest you purchase the book on Amazon to get a deeper understanding. It's worth the read.
The main reason I wanted to write about this concept of adding a healthy fat into your coffee to substitute for breakfast is that I've gained amazing results from using one of Dave Asprey recommendations, MCT Oil.

When I share with people that I add this to my coffee- most people haven't heard of it and ask- "what's that"? So I'll explain the very basics.
MCT oil is Medium-chain Triglyceride, which are triglycerides whose fatty acids have an aliphatic tail of 6–12 carbon atoms. The fatty acids found in MCTs are called medium-chain fatty acids. Basically, to my understanding, it's a higher potency of coconut oil.
I've been drinking MCT oil in my coffee for breakfast (nothing else) for the past 4-5 months and it's given me amazing results, truly, outstanding! Before I share those results I want to give you a few tips on using MCT oil.
When I first started using it I was unaware I was using way too much. I quickly discovered this after several weeks in a row I would get a queasy stomach plus be running to the bathroom every 15 minutes. Not so glamorous! So I highly recommend to start off using a small amount, like 1/2 of a teaspoon and slowly increasing the amount to 2 teaspoons.
The other tip is that it can leave your throat feeling really dry when you add it to coffee. It sounds weird, but I don't mind it and actually love putting the MCT oil, coffee, and blending that in our Ninja for 15 seconds. Sometimes I'll add peppermint oil or cinnamon but most of the time I love how it tastes and even makes it frothy. Yum! If you find yourself not really enjoying it, then I recommend adding it to a smoothie in the morning. Just be sure your smoothie has 0 added sugar... yes, I said zero.
Each morning, I genuinely look forward to my coffee + MCT oil because of the way it makes my body feel and look! My diet is very low in sugar except my planned "joy eats" and high in healthy fat and veggies which helps my body switch to being fat-adapted diet instead of looking to sugar and carbs for fuel.

The benefits I've loved and noticed the most include:
- A curbed appetite in the morning. Since I do intermittent fasting for 16 hours, so my eating window is 8 hours, I used to get hungry around 10 am. Now I can easily make it to 12 or 1 pm without eating any food and am not craving food. Amazing!
- Flatter and more toned stomach. Sounds crazy- right? This has been my experience and is not suggesting everyone who drinks MCT oil is going to have this benefit. However, I lost 30lbs by adjusting my lifestyle first. Then, when I added this to my diet, plus intermittent fasting, my stomach and arms seemed to tone up even more. I'm not sure if it's because it targets your fat or speeds up your metabolism (I've read it does both)- but it worked for me. So I continue to use this "miracle" ingredient.
- A boost of energy and mental focus. When I would fast in the morning prior to incorporating this oil into my diet, I felt fatigued and not so sharp mentally. Now that I drink this with my coffee, the mornings are consistently my most productive time of the day. It's amazing how focused I feel all the way up to 12 or 1. The bonus is that I'm rarely thinking or craving food, wondering, "when is it time to eat"?
Those are 3 of the several benefits I've experienced from using MCT oil. Several people, I talk to admit that they struggle with food cravings, being hungry often, and not being at their ideal weight. The struggle is real and I can totally relate to the frustration. In our membership, Trust U, we teach people how to overcome this with ease.
My personal experience, I had to first look at my hunger level, then my over-desire for food, and finally made adjustments my daily plan of what to put in my mouth. If you are struggling with getting to your ideal weight I suggest making some of those changes and even test out intermittent fasting with MCT oil in the mornings. It's all about figuring out what gives your body optimum energy and feel good.
